71 Better Days

(Jackson)
From the Ian Gillan album One Eye To Morocco

The peripatetic MLJ (Michael Lee Jackson) played this for me in the wee small hours down in Darzet (Dorset) during one of his mind boggling tours of a planet that's a bit like his best shirt - not nearly big enough for him.

The insistent guitar lick is a moody shade of darkening indigo. The mature lyrics tell of fear and hope.

Better Days

(Jackson)

And we don't have much
But these four walls
And it's just enough
To keep us warm
On those cold winter nights

Let's think about better days
Not what we did
But what we'll do

And we work so hard
Each and every day
We're growing old
We get afraid
You can count on me

Let's think about better days
Not what we did
But what we'll do

And if I had
Only one more day
I'd spend it right here with you

Under a million stars
Our two hearts pound
And that's the only thing
That matters now

We know a few things
About life and death
Pretty soon
We'll learn the rest
I'm in no rush at all

Let's think about better days
Not what we did
But what we'll do

And if I had
Only one more day
I'd spend it right here with you
